Miamian silt loam covers 24 percent of the ground near downtown Xenia, with about 40 percent clay in the subsoil and dense till about 36 inches down. Ockley silt loam on the outwash drains well. Westland and Sloan soils in the low ground are poorly drained, with a water table within 6 inches of the surface in a wet spring. Whether your yard drains depends on which of the three you are on. Miamian holds water a couple of feet down and keeps low spots wet for days. Ockley drains itself and usually needs grade only. Westland and Sloan ground is wet from below, and a drain there has to go deep and have somewhere to empty.
