What does a landscape designer actually do before anything gets built?
We measure the property first: existing elevations, where water collects, where it leaves, and what the soil is doing. That survey becomes a scaled plan showing hardscape footprints, finished grades, and drainage paths. You see exactly where the patio, wall, and beds sit, and how the finished grade moves water, before a machine ever arrives.
Why do landscape designs fail after the first heavy rain?
Most designs are drawn as a layout rather than a grade. When the plan ignores how water already crosses the site, the new patio traps runoff, the beds wash out, and the wall takes on water it was never sized for.
