Scope of Work

Retaining walls and concrete on a hillside lot in Cincinnati, Ohio. The old walls had cracked through and the drive was gravel over failed asphalt. The front steps had broken apart at the joints, and the whole run fell downhill to the road.

We took out the failed concrete, excavated the whole drive corridor and reset the grade on both sides. New block retaining walls went in at stepped elevations with finished caps, running the length of the driveway and back out along the street. Then we poured the driveway, a curved walkway and the steps, with the steps built into the wall instead of sitting on the slope in front of it.

Wall lights are set into the block courses, so the drive and the steps are lit after dark.

What Made It Tricky

The lot falls hard from the house down to the road, so nothing sits at one elevation. That grade is what broke the original walls and steps. The street end had to be coned off while we formed and poured the apron.
